The Great Australian Cancer Bush Walk
A unique event with Australian history being made by Melbourne secondary school teacher bushwalking 6022kms to raise $1 million for The Cancer Council.
Veteran bush-walker Michael Mitchell will complete a bush walk starting at Cape York QLD on 5th May 2008, finishing at Wilsons Promontory VIC on 27th June 2009. It takes 13 months walking from sunrise to sunset, six days a week.
The walk introduces people to easy healthy living, wellbeing education as up to 350 sponsored walkers join Michael. Each week ends in a country town with a community event.
Ironically, a family member and close friends of Michael have recently been diagnosed with cancer. Despite his desire to be with them, they urge him to continue with the walk. Michael and the support team are even more committed to reaching his goals.
This is Michael’s personal contribution and one he wishes to throw open to others. Thank you for donating online and for helping many Australians.

Thank you for visiting my online donation site.
Put simply, too many people close to me have been touched by cancer. Their bravery and courage in fighting the disease is often matched only by the determination of those caring professionals committed to treating them.
I believe all of us have the desire to help others when we can. I thought seriously about my own capacity to contribute. I can carry a pack all day far enough to inspire others to kick in funds and make a difference.
I am amazed by the range of cancer related services funded by The Cancer Council of Australia. In fact, they raise $60M every year without government assistance, to help us Australians with our cancer battles.
This sort of self-reliance is an Australian way of going about things and a bush walk is a fitting way of showing support for those who care so much for others. I look forward to you throwing your support behind us and sharing my dream of helping the helpers.
